Preemployment medical assessments – so what is a pre-employment medical assessment?
A pre-employment medical involves a consultation with a doctor to assess any possible risk factors. This is done to ensure the person can safely carry out the required duties for a particular job. Our nurses and medical students may work to gather required information in conjunction with your doctor.
The pre-employment medical generally includes the doctor taking a medical history plus a physical examination.
The physical examination may include general data such as blood pressure reading, heart rate, height and weight. Other areas of physical assessment may also include a musculoskeletal assessment such as range of movement, flexibility and strength.
Some tests which are frequently required are hearing tests, eye tests and urine tests. Specific testing will depend on the type of job and its requirements.
