The ongoing bushfires can affect air quality. Small particles can enter the lungs and aggravate chronic conditions such as heart and lung disease. People with such conditions should follow their action treatment plan and see their doctor if symptoms are persisting. In case of an emergency, call 000.
Recommendations from NSW Health during smoky weather conditions include:
- Avoid outdoor physical activity
- Stay indoors with the windows and doors closed. If using an air conditioner, set to recirculate air.
- Preferably use air-conditioned public places such as shopping centres.
- Avoid using anything which may increase the air pollution such as candles, etc.
- Make use of smoke-free periods to air your house.
