GP registrars

Current GP registrars, Dr Marni Rosenberg and Dr John Wai

The GMC is a teaching practice for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. As a result, GP registrars spend six months with the medical centre where they receive further training during their country term. The registrars are under the supervision of the doctors and refer to them when they have difficult cases. Dr Ruth Tinker is in charge of our registrars' training and liaises closely with the College and its local representative, Dr Hilton Koppe.

Medical students

We also host a number of senior year medical students from Sydney University and Newcastle University for periods of four weeks. It is part of the GMC’s philosophy that it is important to show students what medical practice is like in a regional centre.

If your GP has a medical student with them on the day you have an appointment, you will be asked if the student can also sit in on the consultation. We would encourage you to allow this as it provides a valuable learning experience for the students to see as wide a range of patients as possible during their time with us. However, if you are not comfortable about this, you are under no obligation to have the student sit in.

Nurses

Due to the increased demand for our mini accident and emergency department and operating theatre, we have a number of registered nurses working at the GMC.

Whether it is immunisation for an overseas trip, a vaccination for the children, a cut to stitch up, a skin cancer to remove, or somewhere to lie down when acutely ill, you will be taken to this area and be attended by our highly skilled nursing team.
