Speech Pathology |
Communication disorders affect one in 17 Australians, with up to one in ten children affected. The impact of a communication problem can be very significant, affecting learning, social skills and work performance. The degree of impact will vary with age, severity and type of disorder, but all those affected with a communication problem will experience frustration and embarrassment.
Speech pathologist Leanne Friis provides services to clients of all ages with a wide range of communication difficulties, including speech sound disorders, language delays, learning difficulties, voice problems, stuttering and hearing impairment. She has specialist experience and interest in working with children and their families.
Services available include assessments, reports, therapy (both group and individual), parent training, school and home programs and professional development courses for teachers.
If parents are concerned about their child's speech and language development, it is always worth having it checked by a speech pathologist. With stuttering it is important for the child to be seen as soon as possible because it is much easier to fix the problem early on. Stuttering affects four boys for every girl.
An assessment with Leanne takes two to three hours, a therapy session about 45 minutes. Leanne is available on Tuesdays from 8.30am - 4pm.
